Bayleigh Runner did all she could to extend Hamilton Heights win streak to 10 in a row.

The sophomore scored a game-high 22 points, but the Lady Huskies lost 42-39 at home to the Lafayette Jefferson Lady Bronchos Thursday.

“I think we did a lot of things well, (but) our margin for error isn’t great,” Hamilton Heights head coach Keegan Cherry said. “If you’re going to beat a team like Lafayette Jefferson, who has lost one game on the season, you got to do those little things. Simply, we didn’t make enough plays to win the game.”

After trailing for much of the second half, the Huskies took a 35-34 lead on a pair of free throws from Runner with just under three minutes left in the fourth. Krystin Green, who finished with 10 points, gave the Bronchos the lead back on the next possession.

The Huskies wouldn’t reclaim the advantage back, but they had a shot to send it to overtime. With 9.5 seconds remaining, the Huskies called a timeout and drew up a play that was designed for Runner to take a 3-pointer. The Bronchos recognized it, and Ana Collar was forced to throw up a shot that clanked off the rim as time expired.

“The last play was definitely designed for Bayleigh,” Cherry said. “Bayleigh was the best player on the floor tonight … she was head and shoulders better than anybody else we had out there.”

In a one-possession game, the Huskies shot 9-of-18 from the foul line. Kayla Kirtley, Lauryn Wiley and Collar scored five points each for Heights.
