Six Lady Huskies scored at least six points Friday night as Hamilton Heights advanced to the championship game of the Class 3A Sectional 24 bracket with a 57-45 win over the Jay County Patriots.

Senior forward Kayla Kirtley led the Huskies’ attack with 17 points, but she received plenty of help from her teammates. Sophomore guard Bayleigh Runner scored all 10 of her points in the second half, after Hamilton Heights took a 26-15 lead into the locker room.

The Patriots were able to chip one point off the Huskies lead going in the third quarter, but free throws down the stretch from Runner and sophomore Payton Dissett sealed the victory.

Dissett finished with six points, which also all came in the second half. Seniors Ana Collar and Lexi Branham and junior Lauryn Wiley each contributed to Hamilton Heights win with eight points apiece.

Hamilton Heights (18-7) will face Yorktown (13-10) at 7:30 p.m tonight in the championship game at Blackford High School. Yorktown defeated New Castle 60-57 in the bracket’s other semifinal game to advance.

Hamilton Heights got the best of Yorktown Jan. 18, in a 48-46 double-overtime game. Runner had a game-high 23 points in the contest.

The Tigers will come into tonight’s matchup winners of two straight, while the Huskies have won 11 of their last 12 games.
