Alexandra Pollock, The Times’ sports editor, received a third place award from the Hoosier State Press Association Better Newspaper Contest, for her series on heroin addiction in Hamilton County.

Indiana’s contest was judged by the North Carolina Press Association. In critiquing Pollock’s series, the category judge called it the strongest, most in-depth coverage they’ve read.

“This series stood out to me because the ledes for each article were strong and I genuinely wanted to keep reading all the way through. After reading so many heroin related stories in the last few years as well in this category, this was by far the strongest, most in depth. The personal stories from members of the community also made this series really powerful.”

Pollock’s entry was in the Best News Coverage with No Deadline Pressure category.
