Joanna Ruth McDonald passed away July 21, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital at Kokomo.

She was born May 1, 1941 at Noblesville, to her parents, Neal Lewis and Mary Lucille (Findling) Johnson. Her parents preceded her in death.

She graduated from Prairie High School, Tipton County, with the Class of 1959, and attended Stephens College at Columbus, Mo., in 1960. She then returned to Indiana to begin working and decided later to return to college. She chose Indiana University Indianapolis School of Social Work, graduating May 12, 1985, with a bachelor's degree., then completed her master's degree graduating with high honors on May 11, 1986.

She was a member of the National Association of Social Workers, certified Nov. 13, 1989. She had worked in Indianapolis, Logansport and Vincinnes.

She married Joseph, the love of her life, on June 12, 1991, in Sevier County, Gatlinburg, Tenn., returning home with her husband to reside near Sharpsville, for 27 happy years.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph Ray McDonald of Sharpsville; a brother, Steven H. Johnson of Kokomo; nephews, Matt Johnson of Benbrook, Texas, and Neal Johnson of Indianapolis; step-daughters, Carmen Valentine of Anderson, Cathy Cucuz of Fishers; and a stepson, Mike McDonald of Colorado Springs, Co.

Due to her love of animals, especially dogs, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Joanna's memory to the Kokomo Humane Society, 713 North Elizabeth St., Kokomo, IN 46901.
