John Calvin Rose, age 75, of Paoli, formerly of Sheridan, passed away Sunday afternoon, April 9, 2017, at IU Hospital in Bloomington, Indiana.

Born Oct. 26, 1941, in St. Charles, Va., he was the son of the late Roy Franklin and Beatrice "Tootsie" (Stoops) Rose-Savage.

He attended St. Charles High School and worked as a machinist at BIMCO in Sheridan for more than 35 years. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was happiest when he was either on the lake or out deep in the woods. This was definitely one of his favorite times of the year, the start of mushroom hunting season in Indiana. He was also a man of great faith. He loved attending New Hope Baptist Church in Paoli. Nothing however could compete with the love he had for his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his 2 sons, Jeffery C. Rose of Paoli, and John Michael Rose (Teri) of British Columbia, Canada; his daughter, Leah Melinda Acord (Gordon) of Sheridan; 5 grandchildren, John Hunt (Felicia) of Sheridan, Jacob Rose of Alberta, Canada, Rebecca Rose of British Columbia, Canada, Keyonna Rose of Lafayette and Aaron Acord of Advance; 4 great grandchildren, Marley, Sterling, Stephanie and Ryan; 1 brother, Jerry Rose of Paoli; and 4 sisters, Cary Flanary (Larry) of Monarch, Va., Violet Robbins of Pennington Gap, Va., Sarah Jane Rose of Pennington Gap, Va. and Ilene Huff (Gary) of Tennessee; and his longtime companion Phyllis Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister, Geraldine Cowan; 2 brothers, Earl Eugene and Elmer Lee Rose; and by his wife Leah H. (Cowan) Rose in 1995. They were married on Jan. 6, 1959.

Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, April 15, 2017, at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th St., Sheridan, with visitation scheduled from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Crown View Cemetery in Sheridan. Pastor George Cooper will be officiating.
