John Edward Lewis passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Feb. 27, 2017.

He was born on Nov. 16, 1938, in Arcadia. He was the son of the late Walter and Leota (McGill) Lewis.

He graduated from Jackson High School in 1956 in Arcadia. He Graduated from Ball State with a bachelor's degree in Business in 1967. He served active duty in the Navy from 1960-1962. He was the first crew of the USS John King. He served in the Bay of Pigs.

He worked in Real Estate for many years as a Real Estate Broker. He owned Barber Shops in North Fort Myers, Fla., on Littleton Road and Bayshore Shopping Center. He retired in 2005 from those businesses. Prior to that he was employed at REMC in Lebanon, and Batesville Casket Company in Batesville, In. He enjoyed many leisure activities. He was an avid pool player and enjoyed collecting pool cues. He won many tournaments and played in national tournaments in Las Vegas. He enjoyed carving ducks and many species of birds. He has shot trap, collected NASCAR memorabilia and always enjoyed watching the races. He was a big Alabama fan and was his happiest when he was fishing. He played golf, duck hunted, and many other sports.

He belonged to the Shriners, Masons, Rotary, and attended the Presbyterian church in Fort Myers, Fla.

He was married to Nancy Kathryn Thrasher on Dec. 1, 1973. John had three children from a previous marriage, Jodi Lynn (Trever) Brant, of Lebanon, Jami (Andrew) Martin of Martinsville, Ill., and John C. Lewis of Lebanon. He had 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. They had no children. John and Nancy enjoyed working together in their barbershops and other businesses. They enjoyed playing in pool tournaments together. They enjoyed traveling and going to fishing tournaments together.

He will be missed by many family members and friends. He had 7 nieces and nephews that he liked spending time with. He has many great nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his loyal friends Rob and Jason Milliken, Teri Poor, Dominic Greco and his faithful dog Hooch.

Burial will take place at a later date at Arcadia Cemetery near Arcadia, Indiana. Local arrangements are entrusted to Hartley Funeral Homes Cicero Chapel, 209 W Jackson St, Cicero, IN 46034
