John Robert Hillard, age 90, of Noblesville, died Oct. 3, 2017 at Riverwalk Commons at Noblesville.

He was born February 2, 1927 at Elwood, to Omer Newton and Mary Emma (David) Hillard.

As a young man, he joined the military and served his country in the U.S. Navy for 22 years. His service time included three wars, WW II, Korean Conflict and the Viet Nam War. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed photography, making movies and camping, often including all three with his family.

He married Geraldine Grace (Stafford) Hillard on June 4, 1953 and together they owned and managed Hillard Variety Store and Hillard Upholstery Shop at Cicero, for several years.

Survivors include a son, John Edward (Cindy) Hillard of Noblesville; daughters, Elizabeth Ann (Douglas) Hinshaw, and Deborah Kay Hillard both of Noblesville; grandchildren, Krysti Deckert, Erin and Ryan Hinshaw, and Jamie Hillard, plus three great-grandchildren.

His parents, wife and sister, Ellen Kathryn Crawford all preceded him in death.

Funeral services are scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday Oct. 5, 2017, at Hartley Funeral Homes Cicero Chapel, 209 West Jackson St., Cicero, IN 46034, with Dale Erwin officiating. Visitation is scheduled from 5 p.m. until time of the services. Graveside rites are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday Oct., 6, 2017, at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens at Indianapolis.
