Gail Kuk (nee Laraine Gail Butler) departed this world in the early hours of Aug. 30, 2020.
Gail was born Nov. 11, 1948 in West Virginia, the second child of Ralph and Edna Butler.
Most of her growing up was done in Norwalk, Ohio; Ms. Kuk and her two siblings graduated from Norwalk High School. Starting in the early '80s, Ms. Kuk lived in Indiana for more than two decades and there raised two children. Ms. Kuk went back to school, earning an R.N. degree. Beyond her work as a nurse, Ms. Kuk's compassion for those hurt and rejected by the world led her to several volunteer efforts. She provided comfort to AIDS hospice patients, as well as the people of Haiti, where she went on several medical missions. In 2007, Ms. Kuk moved to Ft. Myers, Florida.
Survivors include her children, Elliot Kuk of Indianapolis and Annie Johnson of Ft. Myers, Fla.; her granddaughter, Noelle Johnson of Ft. Myers, Fla.; her siblings, Connie Lewis of Estero, Fla. and John Butler of Matlacha, Fla.; nieces, Kelly Eddy of Norwalk, Tracy Abbasi of Estero and Ashleigh Couch of Norwalk; and nephew, Adam Butler of Norwalk.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Ms. Kuk's niece, Tracy, also an R.N., cites her aunt as an inspiration in her own career choice.
