George Gilbert Walker, 86, of Arcadia, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at his home. He was born Aug. 24, 1932 in Rock Island, Ill. to Charles Luther and Mary Ruth (Steffy) Walker. 
As a young man he served his country in the U.S. Army and was soon sent to Korea to assist in the war effort there. After being honorably discharged, he became employed at Delco Remy as a machinist where he worked for over 34 years. He had also worked at the Firestone Store and Sun Welding both formerly located in Arcadia. During this time, he also worked part-time at the Clifford Shell Service Station.
His family said George loved to work, especially any type of mechanic repair work.
He also loved to read, listen to country music, and assist his wife in gardening.
He was a member of the Cicero American Legion and United Auto Workers.
He married Betty Loraine (Cady) Walker on Sept. 23, 1952. She preceded him death Aug. 24, 2018. In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters Pat and Elizabeth.
Surviving him are twin sons: Ron (Karen) Walker, of Atlanta, and Don (Debbie) Walker, of Lebanon; brothers: Bob Walker, of Greenville, N.C., Lee Walker, of Indiana, Pa., and Gerald Walker, of Overland, Ohio; a sister: Edith Hauser, of Columbus, Ohio; plus seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for noon on Saturday, April 13, at Hartley Funeral Homes Cicero Chapel, 209 W. Jackson St., in Cicero with visitation from 10 a.m. until time of the services.
