Ida Susan Sherk Heier Chenoweth, 76, of Carmel, passed into Heaven on Dec. 24, 2019 at St. Vincent Hospital in Carmel.
She was born on Dec. 29, 1942 in South Bend, Indiana to Walter and Lillie (Majors) Sherk.
Mrs. Chenoweth was a 1960 graduate of Bremen High School in Bremen, Indiana. She was involved in Girls Athletic Association and a baton twirler. On Aug. 31, 1963, Mrs. Chenoweth married Jeffery Heier. They divorced in 1991. Mrs. Chenoweth married Jerry Chenoweth on Dec. 27, 1997 and they divorced in 2014. Mrs. Chenoweth graduated from Indiana State University in 1964 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Education. She went on to get her Master’s in Education from St. Francis College in 1969.
Mrs. Chenoweth was a beloved teacher to many of her students over the years. She taught Home Economics in Hamilton, Indiana at Hamilton High School from 1965-1967 and in Angola, Indiana at Angola High School from 1968 to 1977. She also taught Home Economic in Muncie, Indiana at Delta High School from 1977-1979, and in North Vernon, Indiana she taught health at Jennings County High School from 1979-1985. Mrs. Chenoweth went on to teach Home Economic at Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Indiana in 1989 and retired from teaching in 1999.
Mrs. Chenoweth had many passions throughout her life. She loved to teach, sew, cook and bake. She also was an award winning seamstress, quilter, and cross-stitcher. Mrs. Chenoweth had many collections some included P.Buckley Moss prints, Boyds Bear pins, cookbooks, Santa’s, and Longenberger baskets. Her greatest passion was to spend time with her grandchildren baking cookies, making pizza, and watching them in their various sporting events! Her wish was to see them all get married and to know her great grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Todd Heier of Fishers and Amy Jo (Heier) Harris (Ken) of Westfield; grandchildren, Matasha Harris of Noblesville, Jacob Harris of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Keith Harris of Kokomo, Nicholas Harris of Muncie, Indiana, Jerilyn Heier of Sheridan, Kennedy Harris of Indianapolis, Tayler Harris of New Castle and Justin Heier of Avon; great-grandchildren, Bradley Ryan Wayne Harris, Scarlett Jo Harris, Theodore Brian Harris and Melody Faye Harris; nine nieces and nephews; and her sister, Barbra Jo Sherk Shell of Bremen.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Services are scheduled for 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020 at Randall and Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Road in Noblesville, Indiana. A celebration of life will be held at 2 - 4 p.m.; with Reverend Thomas Beatley will officiating. Family and friends may pay their respects from 2 - 4 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
