FISHERS - The Carmel boys track and field team defeated Hamilton Southeastern at HSE on Tuesday night 73-56.

The meet featured two of the top track and field teams in the state. Carmel is the defending state champion while HSE placed eighth in the state finals last spring.

A number of Greyhound athletes gave strong performances Tuesday night contributing to the team win over the Royals. Ryan Lipe won in the 100 and 200-meter dash events. Jakob Pearson was victorious in the 110-meter high hurdles while Jalen Walker won in the 300-meter hurdles. In field events, Mitch Lipe won in the pole vault, Bryce Sharp in the discus and Vance Roudebush in the shotput.

Hamilton Southeastern's Brayden Watson won the 1,600 meters with a time of 4:30. Eric Steinmetz finished third with a time of 4:33.

Gabe Fendel stepped out of his comfort zone and ran the 800 meters nearly breaking the school record, and followed that performance with the fastest split in the 1,600 meter relay, which HSE won.

Brendan Huckabee came away with the win in the 3,200 meters. He was followed by Brady Jarosinski in third place.

HSE swept the High jump lead by Hayden Wenger. The Royals took second and third in the Pole Vault, and Chase Maxey won the Long Jump.

Sam Garvin took third and second in the discus and shot put respectively. Johnny May rounded out the shot put with a third place finish.

Carmel will next be in action on April 13 at home against North Central.

Hamilton Southeastern will next compete at home against Fishers on April 13.
