Indianapolis – The Carmel tennis duo of Leila Antony and Lauren Littell were crowned doubles state champions after they defeated Abby Myers and Margo Throop of Evansville Memorial 6-0, 6-2 on Saturday to claim the state title.

The pair capped off a perfect 20-0 season and became the seventh duo in team history to be crowned state champions.

Head coach Bryan Hanan believed from day one, that these two could be special.

“I told them from day one that they had the chance to win a state championship,” Hanan said. “They both have similar attitudes, they hate to even lose a point during a match and that’s why I think they are able to gel so well on the court.”

Antony and Littell only lost three sets all season. Littelll was on the state championship team last season, while Antony came all the way from Arizona to join the team. Hanan says that Littell took Antony under her wing and the rest is history.

“Lauren was our best player all season,” he said. “I wanted to pair Leila up with her so she could watch how Lauren competed and learn with her as the season progressed. They balance each other so well. They just really are a special girls to coach and I couldn’t be more proud of them.”

The scary thing is that Leila is only a sophomore while Lauren is only a freshman. This duo could be looking at competing for a few more state titles in the future.
