CARMEL - The Carmel Girls Track team will be a mix of experienced distance runners and young sprinters.

Coach Aaron McRill said the Lady Greyhounds' distance group tends to be experienced and race ready early, while our sprint squad is a little less experienced and needs to get a few competitions under their belt.

"We think we have lots of young talent, in all areas of our team that just needs to be developed and hopefully help us come June 3 at the State Meet," McRill said. "Last year we finished tied for 6th, this year we'd like to podium, which in is top 2 in track. We know that it is a lofty goal, but one we think is not impossible."

McRill said Warren Central will be the team to beat, Pike will again be tough, and there are quite a few other teams that will be tough to beat.

"The great thing about track is, with some talent, gutsy performances and a little luckm things just might go your way," McRill said.

Carmel Girls To Watch:

• Rachel Anderson (SR) - Rachel finished 9th at last year's state track finals in the 1600m run. Her time was 4:59.05

• Phoebe Bates (FR) - Phoebe placed 9th overall at the cross country state finals in the fall and ran 5:05 as an 8th grader.

• Natalie Cotherman (SR) - We are hoping Natalie throws discus to her potential. She's good enough to place in the top 10 at state. Her throw in sectionals last year (121-10) would have placed her 11th at the state meet.

• Maddie Dalton (JR) - Maddie place 3rd overall in the fall at the state finals in cross country. She was a bit disappointed after suffering a injury last year in track that set her back, so she is looking for big things come June.

• Kara Deady (JR) - Kara set her personal best in Pole Vault at the state meet last year with a vault of 11-03.00 which was good enough to finish 11th (tied for 9th, but finished 11th on misses). We think she can finish in the top 3 this year.

• Christina Geisler (SR) - Christina has had a couple great seasons in cross country and track. She finished 4th last year in the 3200m run in a time of 10:38.07 and is the top returner in the event.

• Reagan Hune (SO) - Placing 15th at last year's state finals in the 400m dash, Reagan is going to be an important part of the relays as well as the open 400m.

• Sarah Leinheiser (SR) - State cross country champ in 2015 and placed 5th at last year's state meet in the 3200m run, with a time of 10:38.20. She is the second top returner in this event and should be one of the favorites along with Christina to win it.
