LEBANON - The Carmel softball team lost a heartbreaker 8-7 at defending state champ Leanon High School on Wednesday night.

The game was tied at seven in the bottom of the seventh when Lebanon's Kenzie Jones hit into a fielder's choice, but the game-winning run scored.

The Greyhounds controlled the first half of the game leading 5-2 after four innings, but the Tigers responded scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Carmel regained the lead with two runs in the top of the seventh, but Lebanon again had the answer.

Carmel was led at the plate by Stormy Kotzelnick and Sarah Goddard. Kotzelnick went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and one RBI. Goddard went 3-for-3 and led the lineup with three RBIs. Julia Ranney also recorded two hits.

The Greyhounds finished with seven hits while the Tigers tallied eight.

Carmel next plays at home against Center Grove 6 p.m. April 11.
