PARKER CITY- The Lady Blackhawks had a tough opponent in class 2A No. 3 Monroe Central in the first round of the Sectional 40 girls basketball tournament Tuesday.

Despite two even middle quarters, the Golden Bears outmatched Sheridan at the beginning and the end, winning 53-37. Monroe Central (21-2) had been averaging about 55 points a game and missed the mark just by a few.

The balanced offense broke down Sheridan's defense, starting with a 14-7 first quarter. Sheridan's Audrey Reed and Brittany Welch led the charge in the next two quarters, bringing the score to 36-32 after the third quarter.

However, this would be the closest they got. The Golden Bears reared their heads in the last eight minutes, outscoring Sheridan 17-5.

Reed and Welch had 16 points apiece. This was Welch's last game as a Sheridan senior and the team finished with a 16-7 record.
