This round’s Game of the Week is a rivalry game that didn’t disappoint.

Behind 25 point from senior Drayden Thomas, the Hamilton Heights Huskies held on for a 51-50 win over the Tipton Blue Devils in The Hammer Game.

The Huskies outscored the Blue Devils 15-8 in the first quarter, and a 13-9 advantage on the scoreboard in the second extended Hamilton Heights lead to 11 at the half.

But the Blue Devils weren’t going to just fold against their Hoosier Conference foes. Tipton shut down Heights in the third, outscoring the Huskies 16-6 to cut the margin to one heading into the game’s final eight minutes.

Thomas, who scored his 25 on 9-of-15 from the floor, was able to connect on several key 3-pointers that ultimately helped the Huskies hold on for the one-point win. Thomas made all four of his attempts from behind the arc — Heights shot 5-of-11 from deep as a team.

Max Beale finished second on the Huskies in points with six on 3-of-4 shooting, while Gus Etchison and Tyler Wiltermood both chipped in with five. Caleb Bean and Michael Cross scored four points each.

As a team, the Huskies shot 18-of-42 (42 percent) from the field and 5-of-11 from downtown. Heights converted on 10-of-15 foul shots. Thomas also led the team on the glass with six rebounds. Beale finished second with five and Wiltermood and Hudson Hochstedler pulled down three boards each. Etchison had a team-high four assists.

The Huskies now lead the series with the Blue Devils 44-31. Height’s junior varsity team holds a 7-2 record against Tipton’s JV team.
