CARMEL – 18 of the best girls’ golf teams in the state of Indiana all converged on to Prairie View Golf Course in Carmel to participate in the 2019 Fall State Preview. The annual event showcases some of the states top golfers and provides an early season test for coaches to see where there team is at.

Evansville North ended up finishing in first place and taking home the title as the defending state champions and number one ranked team in the state proved why they are the team to beat, shooting a 303 on the day.

Four Hamilton County schools took to the course at the meet. Carmel, Westfield, Hamilton Southeastern, and Guerin Catholic all participated at the State Preview.

Westfield who was the defending champion from last years’ state preview, had another strong showing at the event. The Rocks took home the silver medal as the team finished 11 strokes behind Evansville North, shooting a 314. Jocelyn Bruch led the team and took home the individual medal as she continued her strong start to the season shooting a three-under 69. Sophie McGinnis finished second on the team shooting a 78, while Natalie Shupe shot a 81. Allie Hildebrand and Brette Hanavan rounded out the team with Hildebrand shooting an 86 and Hanavan an 81.

The Lady Greyhounds of Carmel placed fifth on the day as the team shot a 329. Head Coach Kelly Kluesner noted that even though the competition was tough, she was pleased with her team’s performance.

“We faced some of the toughest competition in the state today,” Kluesner said. “It was a tough day, and we struggled on some holes, but overall I’m really proud of all of our girls fighting to the end.”

Junior Katie Kuc led the team with another impressive performance, shooting a 78 on the day. Senior Elizabeth Hedrick made two impressive birdies on her last two holes to finish the day with an 80. Ava Hedrick was right behind her with an 83. Sydney Longstreth and Ava Nguyen rounded out the Greyhounds performance as Longstreth finished with an 88 and Nguyen an 89.

The Lady Royals of Hamilton Southeastern placed 12th out of the 18 teams at the meet with a team score of 371, finishing just three strokes outside the top ten. Head Coach Steven Guenin even though things didn’t go the way the team wanted sometimes, was still very upbeat about his team’s performance.

“First off, I don’t think we could’ve asked for better weather for this tournament,” Guenin said. “This course is stretched out over 5900 yards and our girls competed on every single inch of this course. We had many bright moments on the day, but there were also times where we struggled. Overall I’m proud of our girls and the fact that they didn’t give up, and stayed positive all throughout the day.”

Amber Luttrell continued to lead the Royals with an 88 on the day. Seniors Maggie Watson and Payton Schecter each shot a 93 while Ashley Marcinko shot a 97 and Marissa Spreitzer a 99.

The Golden Eagels of Guerin Catholic finished just two strokes behind the Royals as the the team shot a 373 as the team finished in 13th to round out the four teams from Hamilton County.
