Guerin Catholic has secured two Circle City Conference titles in boys tennis and boys soccer. The soccer team clinched the championship when they beat the Roncalli Rebels on Tuesday to go 4-0 in conference play.

The first half of the match up was full of exciting scoring opportunities, but both goalkeepers were up to the task. Daniel Woodruff came up big time and time again for the Rebels, while Will Oberndorfer matched him at the other end for the Golden Eagles.

The scoreless tie was eventually broken in the second half when Guerin freshman Joseph Lafiosca was able to get the ball behind Roncalli's Woodruff. Guerin Catholic would strike again later in the half. This time it was senior captain Andrew Garvey finding the back of the net. Lafiosca would score again late in the game after a brilliant pass set him up with a one-on-one with Woodruff, clenching the title for Guerin.

The previous three conference victories for the team came against Heritage Christain on Aug. 22 (4-0), Brebeuf Jesuit on Aug. 26 (2-0), and Bishop Chatard on Sept. 2 (4-0).

Then on Thursday night, the Guerin Catholic tennis team did the same, getting their fourth win in the Circle City Conference. The boys began their road to the conference title on Aug. 17 with a match against Brebeuf Jesuit. They then took down both Bishop Chatard and Roncalli, before clenching the title last night against Heritage Christian.

The number one doubles team of Wyatt Metzger and Jake Bratton won their match 6-1, 6-0 while number two doubles team AJ Hacker and Shane Shuler won 6-1, 6-1. Cole Metzger defeated his Heritage Christian opponent in the number two singles spot 6-2, 6-3 giving Guerin the W.

The boys' next opponent is Hamilton Southeastern on Monday. The soccer team plays next against Cathedral on Sept. 12.
