FISHERS - Guerin Catholic defeated Hamilton Southeastern 3 games to 1 in a four-set match.

The Golden Eagles opened the match by taking a commanding 21-13 lead, but the Royals quickly climbed back into striking distance forcing the 25-20 victory in set one for Guerin Catholic.

The Golden Eagles needed extra time to win the second game, defeating HSE 26-24.

Hamilton Southeastern won the third set 25-20, and Guerin closed out the match with a 25-23 win.

"We had a handful of players step up in our victory," said Andrew Fuller, Guerin coach. "With four varsity starters out due to illness, we had to rely on some of our younger players to rise to the occasion."

Guerin Catholic was once again led by freshman Ben Persohn who led all attackers with 13 kills and 22 digs leading to his second double-double of the season.

Junior Dylan Stagge had 10 kills and a kill percentage of 43.5%. Senior Marcus Jost stepped into the defensive specialist role and contributed 20 digs while leading the team in serve receive with a high average of 2.19.

Sophomore setter Matt Spaletto contributed with 30 total assists and 10 digs, leading to his first double-double of the season.

The Golden Eagles are on a two-game win streak as they return home to play host to conference rival the Bishop Chatard Trojans Thursday.
