The Millers lost a close game 3-2 to #2 ranked Hamilton Southeastern on Monday night in the opening round of sectionals. The Millers opened the scoring with a finish by Nicolai Anderson on a through ball from Alec Vanyo. HSE tied the game at one a piece about eight minutes later on a nice left footed finish by Royal Darian Ghaffari, getting the ball past a sprawling Miles Atkins in goal. With a minute to go in the first half, Andrew Noel took a free kick from 30 yards out. The HSE goalkeeper went up for the ball but couldn't hold it cleanly and the ball found the back of the net. The Millers led 2-1 at halftime.

The Millers tried to hold onto their lead after the break but HSE earned a free kick just outside the penalty area with 15 minutes to go. HSE's Cale Barnes' shot went just over the wall and just under the crossbar to tie the game at two.

It looked like the game was headed for overtime, but with under 30 seconds, HSE managed to tap in a ball after a mad scramble in the Miller penalty area to take the lead 3-2. The Royals winning score was put in by Chayton Davidson with the assist from Ghaffari.

The Millers took one of the top ranked teams in state to the brink, leading for a majority of the game, but were unable to finish the job. The Millers finish the season with a record of 7-6-4 and look to continue their upward trend next year.

The Royals will next play Fishers in the sectional semi-final on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
