GREENTOWN - After a disappointing loss last week to Tipton, the Sheridan Blackhawks clinched the Hoosier Heartland conference with a 52-16 win against the Eastern Comets.

The Blackhawks returned the opening kickoff to the Comets 22 yard line and scored soon after with a five yard Nick Burnell run and with the extra point the score was 7-0 in favor of Sheridan with 9:06 left in the first quarter.

A steady ground game allowed Eastern to move down the field but their first drive resulted with no points after a missed field goal.

The rest of the first quarter was scoreless but Sheridan got a break after Eastern fumbled the ball on their own 18 yard line and Joe Callahan scored another rushing touchdown for the Blackhawks from two yards outside the end zone. With 8:15 left in the first half, the score was 14-0 Sheridan.

An Eastern fumble went backwards into the end zone as Sheridan would recover to score again and with 7:01 left in the first half the score was 21-0.

Sheridan would drive quickly and with 7.9 seconds left in the first half, Gunnar Williams would make a 40 yard field goal, the first field goal Sheridan attempted during the season. The score at halftime was 24-0.

Cole Cummings would pick off Eastern's Nolan Grubb and return the pass 44 yards for a Sheridan touchdown. The extra point would give Sheridan a 31-0 lead with 10:58 left in the third quarter.

After being shaken up briefly on the previous Eastern drive, Callahan ran the ball 69 yards for another Sheridan touchdown and with 8:53 left in the third quarter the score was 38-0 in Sheridan's favor.

Soon after Eastern turned the ball over on downs, Ange Gnamkey would take a pitch from Drake Delph and would run the ball 30 yards to score and the score was now 45-0 with 5:43 left in the third quarter.

A pair of personal foul calls gave Sheridan easy field position after an incompletion and Joe Callahan ran the ball five yards for another touchdown and with 2:19 left in the third quarter the score was 52-0.

Eastern would finally get on the scoreboard as Ethan Jones would pick up a fumble and run it into the end zone and with 6:06 left in the game the score was 52-7.

A botched punt resulted in a safety for Eastern and with 3:11 left in the game the score was 52-9.

Eastern would score again as Logan McNeil would haul in a Grubb pass and run 23 yards to the end zone and with the extra point the score would be 52-16 with 57 seconds left in the game.

The score would remain unchanged as the Sheridan Blackhawks would clinch the Hoosier Heartland conference, moving to 6-2 on the year and were 6-0 in conference play. Sheridan's final regular season game is a home game against South Decatur.
