Ted Linton Townsend, age 83, of Cicero, \died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017 at his home.

He was born Nov. 11, 1934 at Athens, Ohio, to Robert Linton and Genevieve Louise (Dowler) Townsend.

He was a graduate of Elwood High School with the Class of 1955. He served his country from 1957 to 1959 with the 101st Air Born Unit of the United States Army. He then became employed and worked for many years as a service lineman for Public Service Indiana that later became known as Duke Energy.

 He was a 50 year member of the Elwood Masonic Lodge.  

He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. His passion was reading that included history, the Civil War, WW II and mystery novels. He had a vast library containing many volumes of various interests.He also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.

He married Shirley Jean (Clinghan) Townsend who survives him. Other survivors include sons, Kevin (Arden) Townsend of New Jersey, Tracy (Beth) Mayfield of Fort Worth, Texas, and Darryl Mayfield of Noblesville; a brother, George (Fran) Townsend of Middleton,Tenn.; and sisters, Shirley (Caldon) Murphy of North Vernon, Adrienne Tishner of Tipton, and Julia Miller of Alexandria, plus 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son: Ralph Mayfield, sister: Nettie Baldwin, brothers: Bobby Gene, Donald, and Joe Townsend.

Funeral services are scheduled for noon Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017, at Hartley Funeral Homes Cicero Chapel, 209 West Jackson St., Cicero, IN 46034 with Pastor Jody Brown officiating.  Burial will follow at the Cicero Cemetery.  Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. until time of the services.
