Five DePauw seniors have been named recipients of an Orr Fellowship, which will place them after graduation in jobs in Indianapolis for two years.
Summer Asad, a global health major who minors in philosophy and computer science will work for Lev, a marketing company affiliated with Salesforce Inc. She is from Lewis Center, Ohio.
Natalie Brunini of Hinsdale, Ilinois, will work for DemandJump, also a marketing company. She majors in communication and minors in film studies.
Jalen Friendly will work for Conga, which provides document generation, presentation and reporting tools for Salesforce.com. The communications major, who minors in education studies, comes from Memphis, Tennessee.
Christian Rodriguez Hernandez of Flushing, New York, will work for Apex Benefits Group, which negotiates health benefit plans for its clients. He is a sociology major.
And Elizabeth Johns of Carmel, Indiana, will work for Greenlight Guru, which designs software for medical device companies. She majors in English writing and minors in political science.
Each senior has accepted a job offer from the respective companies. Fellows typically begin work in mid-June of their graduating year; Hannah Scifres, the public relations coordinator for the Governor Bob Orr Indiana Entrepreneurial Fellowship, said that, in light of Covid-19-related stay-at-home order, the organization's executive director is working with the host companies to determine the best course of action for each fellow.
The Orr Fellowship is highly competitive, with only about 5% of applicants ultimately winning a spot. This year, 1,371 students applied, and 70 students from 25 universities were chosen after a series of networking events and interviews. Each fellow is granted a full-time position for two years with an innovative, Indianapolis-based company. The job involves training in community involvement, professional development and leadership.
