Donald J. Collier, 84, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa and formerly of Indianapolis, passed away Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017 at ManorCare-East Locust, Davenport.

He was born May 16, 1933 in Tipton, a son of Lowell E. and Mildred (Miller) Collier.

He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1951. His senior year he was named one of the Top 100 basketball players in Indiana and accepted a full basketball scholarship at Michigan State University.

He served our country in the Army during the tail end of the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged as a corporal in 1955. Mr. Collier worked for many years as an independent insurance agent in Indiana.

He was united in marriage to Shelby J. (Ferguson) Wilson on March 8, 1986 in Indianapolis. She preceded him in death on June 6, 2014. They were members of the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Indianapolis for many years.

Mr. Collier was a proud member of the American Legion and enjoyed sports especially basketball. He also owned thoroughbred race horses during his lifetime and enjoyed all aspects of the horse racing business.

Survivors include his children, Michael (Iris) Collier of Clermont, Fla., Kimberly (Jeff) Turner of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Rodney (Kimberly) Collier of LeClaire, Iowa; grandchildren, Justin, Danielle, Evan, Parker, Cade and Logan; siblings, Bill (Barbara Williams) Collier of Royalton, Ill., Elizabeth Berger of Noblesville, Jim Collier of Kokomo and Karen (Jeff) Thatcher of Kokomo.

Graveside services will be held in the Spring of 2018 at Marion National Cemetery in Marion.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
