James Michael “Mike” Ducy
April 21, 1955 – Jan. 4, 2022
James Michael “Mike” Ducy, 66, Carmel, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022.
He was born April 21, 1955, in Muncie Ind., to James Richard and Vivienne (Bergfalk) Ducy.
Mr. Ducy attended Blackford High School where he once held multiple records as a freestyle swimmer and graduated in 1973. While Mr. Ducy had several jobs early in life, in the 1980s, he found a way to turn his passion for running into a business. Mr. Ducy began a small business acting as the official timer in local running races. Because of Mr. Ducy’s customer service and impeccable attention to detail, his business, “The End Result Company” expanded state and nationwide. Before selling his business, Mr. Ducy and his team were responsible for providing the times and results for many large races such as: The Indianapolis Mini Marathon, Boston Marathon, Chicago Marathon and the Disney World marathon, to name a few.
While Mr. Ducy loved the challenge of providing the results for the big races, he never lost sight of the smaller local races around the state of Indiana, many of which were charitable fund-raising events. Mr. Ducy’s other passion was timing high school and college cross country races. Mr. Ducy and his longtime friend, Marty Day, could be seen many nights and weekends at the finish line of a cross country course.
Whether a race had fifty runners or twenty thousand, Mr. Ducy was meticulous in his preparation and planning so that providing the results to the runners looked easy. If you ran or walked in road races between 1985 and 2010 there is a good possibility that Mr. Ducy provided a race result for you.
Although Mr. Ducy has crossed the finish line, his many years encouraging the 4th and 5th grade boys and girls involved with the Carmel Pup Running program has ensured that there is another generation that will develop a lifelong passion for running.
Most recently, Mr. Ducy worked as a courier for American Expediting. His positive attitude, dedication, and attention to detail led him straight into the fight against COVID-19 as he worked directly with the Lilly testing program. Mr. Ducy developed many treasured friendships making these challenging and uncertain times just a little more enjoyable.
Mike was a member of Northview Church in Carmel Ind. He found comfort and resolve in his faith taking every opportunity to share his belief in Jesus Christ as his friend and savior.
