Paul E. “Smitty” Smith

Nov. 24, 1927 – Feb. 23, 2022

Paul E. “Smitty” Smith, 94, of Tipton, died on Wed., Feb. 23, 2022 at IU Health Tipton Hospital.

He was born on Nov. 24, 1927 in Tipton to Floyd H. & Edith L. (Aldridge) Smith.

Mr. Smith worked for the State of Indiana in the Highway Department for several years.  He was also a farmer and loved tending to the land.  He graduated from Jackson Central High School Class of 1946. Over the years Mr. Smith also lived in Anderson and Atlanta, Ind.   He could be found most mornings at Wheeler’s Truck Stop trading stories and enjoying his morning coffee.  On Thursday nights he could always be found at the Strawtown Auction Barn looking at all the items and treasures people were auctioning and selling.  Mr. Smith loved animals especially his dogs and parrot “Sunny”.

Survivors include his nieces; a sister-in-law, Marcia Smith of Tipton; and the many lifelong friends he has made throughout the years. 

He was preceded in death by his sister, Norma June Wright; and brother William Smith.

A graveside funeral service is scheduled to be held at 2:15 p.m. on Sun., Feb. 27 at the Tetersburg Cemetery with the Rev. Harvey McDaniel presiding, burial to follow.  Visitation is scheduled to be on Sun. from 1 – 2 p.m. at Young-Nichols Funeral Home.
