CCHA’s Andrew Manna Named Officer to Council of School Attorneys
Church Church Hittle + Antrim is proud to congratulate Andrew Manna for being named Officer to the Council of School Attorneys (COSA). He will take on the role of Secretary for the seven-year commitment. Following his run as Secretary, then Vice-Chair, then Chair-Elect, he will serve as the Chair of the COSA Board.
“It is truly an honor to step into this role, given the amazing work COSA does to help promote and develop a closer relationship and better understanding between school attorneys and their clients, school boards, and school boards associations,” says Manna. “I look forward to working alongside some of the brightest and most committed attorneys in education.”
COSA officers provide leadership and make recommendations that guide and help inform the work of the COSA Board as COSA’s governing body. Further, COSA supports school attorneys and provides leadership in legal advocacy for public schools. Its 22-member Board of Directors oversees its continuing legal education programming and working groups for its more than 3,100 members across the United States and Canada. The National School Boards Association (NSBA) formed COSA in 1967 to provide information and practical assistance to attorneys who represent public school boards. Their Office of General Counsel and COSA staff provide professional and executive support and programming for their members, school attorneys, and school leaders across the United States and in their International Partner countries. COSA also supports the legal advocacy efforts of NSBA.
“Promoting and defending public education is a prime focus for NSBA,” said Francisco M. Negrón, Jr., NSBA’s Chief Legal Officer. “COSA’s new slate of officers and directors, experienced and committed law practitioners from across the country, will play a pivotal role in both strengthening and expanding our legal advocacy efforts in the coming year.”
Manna joined Church Church Hittle + Antrim (CCHA) as Partner in August 2009, and represents clients in matters associated with labor and employment law, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and other matters. He engages in the defense of school corporations against claims under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), First Amendment and other constitutional and civil rights law matters. He also represents schools with respect to general school policy review.
