Eunice May Stephenson
July 23, 1925 – April 20, 2022
Eunice May Stephenson, age 96, of Lebanon, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, April 20, 2022, at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon, Indiana.
She was born on July 23, 1925 in Spencer County, Indiana, the daughter of the late Chester Omer and Rosie (Hall) Harris.
Mrs. Stephenson was a 1944 graduate of Michigantown High School. She married Bennie J. Stephenson on October 29, 1948.
She worked as a cook in the cafeteria of the Marion Township Elementary School in Boone County. She retired after 25 years of service to the Marion-Adams School District (now Sheridan Community Schools). Not long after retirement, Mrs. Stephenson decided she’d had enough of the cold, and frequently long, Indiana winters. She and her husband Bennie became snowbirds and flew south, stopping when they hit Port Aransas, Texas.
Mrs. Stephenson never let the grass grow under her feet, unless she was fiddling around in the garden. She loved fussing over her flowers and taking care of her property; she was still doing her own yard work until recently. She also loved going on adventures with her friends. Whether it was a quick trip into town, a drive through the country, or an honest-to-goodness road trip, Mrs. Stephenson never gave it a second thought – she was ready to go. She enjoyed sewing when she had a little down time. She was a talented seamstress, making clothes for her children and quilts for friends, family, and acquaintances.
Mrs. Stephenson’s strong faith served her well throughout the years. She was a member of Christian Liberty Church where she was an active member of the Ladies’ Aid.
Family was a very important part of her life.
Survivors include her three sons Glen Keith Stephenson of Columbus, Richard Kevin Stephenson of Lebanon and Charles Craig Stephenson of Mechanicsburg; two daughters Carol Ferry of Greenwood and Kathy (Dayle) Boyt of Westerville, Ohio; five grandchildren; one step granddaughter; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson Matthew Stephenson; two daughters in law Janet Stephenson and Mary Ellen Stephenson; four brothers Tom, Clifford, Carl and Norman; four sisters Jean, Della, Louise and Elaine; and by her loving husband, Bennie J. Stephenson on February 14, 2001.
Graveside Services are scheduled to be held at 12 p.m. (noon) on Monday, April 25, 2022, at Elizaville Cemetery, 5745 N. 500 E., Lebanon, Indiana.
