Want to Help Others? Join the Noblesville Lions Club
You may have seen a sign for the Lions Club as you entered Noblesville. You may have seen Lions handing out candy in the Fourth of July parade with our mascot, Stanley. You may have even had a great meal at our annual Pork Chop Dinner and Pancake Breakfast. But who are the Lions and what is Lionism?
Lions International started in 1917 in Chicago Illinois. Led by the simple motto of “We Serve,” Lions Clubs quickly grew in towns and cities around the world with members working to help where help is needed. The ideal expressed as “Lionism” is to find projects and areas of need and help, not for any personal gain, but for the knowledge of doing something to make the world just a little better.
The Noblesville Lions Club was founded in 1942 and they are celebrating their 80th anniversary this year. The Club’s primary focus is helping the kids of Noblesville, particularly around vision and hunger. They do this by providing free eye exams to all 3rd, 5th, and 7th grade students at each school as well as younger kids at many day care facilities and other locations by appointment.
They also work with the Boys and Girls Club of Noblesville, Fueled for School and many other local projects as well as giving six scholarships annually to Noblesville and Hamilton Heights High School seniors for their continuing studies. Lions’ members come from all backgrounds and have a lot of fun working on projects and fundraisers.
The Club will be hosting an Information Open House next Wednesday at Ginger’s Café, 1111 S. 10th St., from 6-7 p.m. If you would like to know more about what the club does to help the community, join them at the meeting.
