Earl Leon ‘Woody’ Wood

Earl Leon ‘Woody’ Wood, 86, of Eagletown, Ind., passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2022.

He was born in Sheridan on Nov. 7, 1935, son of the late Dona and Grace (Waggoner) Wood.

Mr. Wood was a lineman for General Telephone & Electronics and later Verizon, traveling the United States on the line and later as a manager. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, and gardening with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his 2 sons Thomas (Laura) Wood of Westfield and Timothy (Kattia) Wood of Picayune, Mississippi; 2 daughters Sherolynn (Frederick) Comar of Westfield and Kari (Todd) Rajer of Westfield; 10 grandchildren Zebulun, Kristopher, Jeremiah, Steven, Nicolas, Andrew, Nathaly, Samantha, Gabrielle, and Brianna; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Dona and Grace (Waggoner) Wood; 4 siblings Jean Fowler, Margaret Robins, Louis Wood and Maurice Wood; and by his lifelong love, the beautiful and graceful Janet Rogers of Noblesville, on June 21, 2010. She and Mr. Wood were married on July 11, 1953.

Mr. Wood’s legacy lives on in the everyday lessons he acquired through life, instilled into his kids, grandkids and all they inspire and touch.

Graveside services are scheduled to take place at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2022, at Spencer Cemetery, 25875 Hamilton Boone Co. Line Rd, Sheridan.

Memorial contributions may be presented to the American Cancer Society.
