SMILE
What makes Jane Sipe smile? “People. Relationships with family and friends make life sweeter. I also love to learn, and meeting new people is one of the best ways to learn different thoughts and ideas from my own,” said the Noblesville resident and Hamilton County Extension Board president. She was found speaking Thursday morning during a Bicentennial Pavilion Groundbreaking at the 4-H Fairgrounds in Noblesville. “The whole fairgrounds and Purdue Extension makes me smile, too.” Sipe was born on a farm in Howard County, Ind., where she was in the 4-H program. She was a five-year 4-H’er while her kids are nine and 10-year 4-H’ers. “I see the value in it,” she said. “We just lived a long distance from the fairgrounds.” She lived in Howard County until 1986 when she moved to Hamilton County. Sipe has volunteered for the Hamilton County 4-H program since 2004, then was asked to sit on a couple of committees and then was elected to the Extension Board. “I’ve really enjoyed it …. “I love to volunteer. I don’t think I knew exactly what I was getting myself into with this project and how many hours it would take, but I would not trade it for anything.” She is a pharmacist by trade and owns her own business and is married to Ken Sipe, a 1980 Hamilton Heights High School graduate. They have a son, Lukas Sipe, and daughter, Sarah (Sipe) Imler. Jane is volunteering all weekend at the Hamilton County 4-H Fair, including judging the Homemade Ice Cream Contest this evening and manning a booth for Life Sciences in the Exhibition Center. “I’ll be around pretty much every day doing something.” Favorite event at the Fair? “I like the Consumer Clothing and Fashion Revue (which was Friday night). My daughter was in both of those projects.” Favorite food at the fair? The cobbler.
