Smile

What makes Helen Dailey smile? “I enjoy being around other people,” said the 93-year-old Noblesville woman, who has volunteered for 70 years for the Hamilton County 4-H Fair and Extension Homemakers in Noblesville. She even has a parking-space sign with her name on it. She was found volunteering at the beverage station in the Extension Homemakers’ Kitchen and Dining Room on Sunday at the Hamilton County 4-H Fair, which ended with the livestock auction on Tuesday night. She has belonged to Cumberland Corners Extension Homemaker Club for 70 years and during that time, she has attended all kinds of Purdue Extension Homemakers training and has learned many skills that she has brought back to teach her own Extension Homemakers club. She was born in Ingles, Ind., and graduated from Pendleton Heights High School and moved from Anderson to Noblesville 70 years ago. What brought her to Hamilton County? “Marriage,” said Helen, who married John Dailey, and they raised three children. For many years, they enjoyed camping in their Airstream trailer as they traveled around the countryside. “We decided that the kids would see things that they needed to see.” She has three grandsons and one great-grandson and one great-granddaughter. Helen’s favorite food at the 4-H Fair? “Fish.” Favorite food that she serves in the Extension Homemaker Dining Room? “Chicken and noodles.”
