Smile
What makes Meredith Robinson smile? “All the friends and all the animals and just how friendly people are,” said the 12-year-old Cicero resident, a Hamilton County 4-H’er and member of Harey Hoppers 4-H (Rabbit) Club. Her rabbit, Woody, was named Champion in the Silver breed, Class 4, during the Hamilton County 4-H Fair in Noblesville. Her rabbit is an organic color and has a silvering on top. His silver breed is one of the oldest breeds for rabbits, Meredith said. ”Every breed of rabbit competes together, and then whatever rabbit is best out of that breed, they get Best of Breed, and that’s what this is.” Class 4 is typically the smaller-sized rabbits, and Class 6 is the bigger size, she said. She also did well in the Rabbit Ambassador Show in 2023. “We have friends who have rabbits; they kind of helped me get into the Rabbits (project).” Why 4-H? “We’ve been to the Fair a couple of times when I was little. I just really liked all of the animals and knew that I wanted to do 4-H.” said the daughter of Eric and Alicia Robinson. “When I was in preschool, I asked for a pet rabbit, and my mom said when I was in third grade that I could have a pet rabbit. But when she told me this in preschool, she thought I would forget by third grade. But I always remembered. So in third grade, they bought me a rabbit. Our agreement was if I got a rabbit, I would show it in 4-H.” Favorite food at the Fair? “Fruit cobblers.” “The blueberry.” Favorite event at the Fair? “Our Rabbit Ambassador Show.” See a special section online of the 2023 Hamilton County 4-H Fair Results and Highlights with today’s edition of The Times.
