Enjoy an evening of Art-Inspired Words
“The Party” piqued Robin Spyker’s attention. Jim Thompson found his muse in “Organ Pipes.” “Daydreaming” captured the attention of Lora Butcher.
These members of Carmel Creative Writers Inc., are among 14 that will present several genres of writing based on works by Indiana artists at Art-Inspired Words, an event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 19 in Community Room A of the Carmel Clay Public Library, 425 E Main St.
This is the second year that the group of authors and people interested in creative writing has collaborated with Indiana Artisan to present a special evening of writing inspired by some of the state’s most exceptional art. It is the first year the evening will be open to the public.
“Art-Inspired Words is a celebration of creativity and expression, where artists and writers come together to share their work and inspire one another,” said Rosalyn Demaree, Indiana Artisan director. “It is a unique evening where art and words intertwine.”
The Art-Inspired Words program evolved from the meetings to give writers and the artists the opportunity to grow their audiences. A slideshow of the works of Indiana Artisan artists that stirred the writers’ emotions will be shown as writers read each original piece.
Free tickets are available on Eventbrite.Seating is limited.
“For five years, Carmel Creative Writers has published an annual anthology of our writing,” said John Schleeter, Carmel, co-organizer of the event. “This year’s edition will be available for sale in November at All Things Carmel and include the pieces written for Art-Inspired Words.”
Of the writers, Schleeter, Lora Butcher and Mark Jones are Carmel residents. Hamilton County artists are Dawn Michaelis, Westfield; and JD Nolan, David O’Dell and Nancy Goodwine Wozniak, Fishers.
Interested writers are welcome to join Carmel Creative Writers, which meets from 6:30-8 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month at Indiana Artisan Gifts & Gallery, 22 N. Rangeline Road, Carmel.
