Ag Day Celebrates 39 Years of Education

Purdue Extension Hamilton County celebrated their 39th annual Ag Day program during National Agriculture week, March 16-22. Because of the construction at the 4-H Fairgrounds, local Extension staff took the Ag Day experience on the road to each participating school.

Over the course of Ag Week, Purdue Extension staff visited 72 classrooms, delivered 42 presentations, and guided students through a hands-on seed planting activity. Teachers could also use a virtual “Ag Day Trail” created by local Extension staff and filled with educational videos and resources to reinforce the lessons shared. Nearly 2,000 students participated, deepening their understanding of agriculture’s critical role in our daily lives.

With many Hamilton County residents now several generations removed from farming, Ag Days have never been more crucial in helping children understand the importance of agriculture.

March 18 marked the 52nd National Ag Day, hosted by the Agriculture Council of America. National Ag Day serves as a reminder to Americans of the vital role agriculture plays in producing our food, fiber, and everyday essentials. It also highlights the importance of a strong agricultural economy and the wealth of career opportunities within the agriculture, food, and fiber industries.
