Children’s Book Writing Contest at Westfield Library

The Westfield Library Foundation is sponsoring a Children’s Book Writing Contest in celebration of Library Appreciation Week in April. The theme for this year’s contest is “A Night at the New Library!” and invites participants to explore their creativity about what an evening at the new Westfield Washington Public Library might look like.

“We’re eager to see the creative ideas that our residents bring to the table,” says Erin Downey, Executive Director of the Westfield Library Foundation. “We hope this contest will inspire young writers and seasoned adults alike to contribute their unique voices.”

The contest is open to residents of Westfield in three categories: Youth (6-12 years old), Teen (13-17 years old), and Adult (18+ years old). The winner of each category will receive a cash prize: $100 for the youth category, $250 for teens, and $250 for adults. The winning stories will be published and featured as part of a special book shelving display at the Westfield Washington Public Library.

Entries should be no longer than 30 pages and can be submitted at the library’s front desk or by emailing Downey at [email protected]. The deadline for submissions is midnight on April 1, and winners will be announced on May 1. Winners will also have the option to illustrate their books themselves or collaborate with a student illustrator.
