Sheridan Public Library Gets Grant for STEM Kits

Sheridan Public Library was recently awarded a grant from Science Kits for Public Libraries – A Project of IEEE Region 4 (SKPL) to purchase high-quality, hands-on STEAM learning kits.  A mission of SKPL is to provide libraries with these kits for all children – regardless of race, gender, financial condition, or home environment.

This exceptional grant has allowed SPL to create over 30 educational Grab & Go STEAM Kits for children ages 1-12. This collection includes a variety of tools to learn STEAM concepts with hands-on activities. It includes different types of robots, marble runs, building sets, pockets microscopes, a model human body, and much more. New kits will be introduced throughout the year. Elissa Dee, Children’s Librarian, says “I am so excited to begin circulating the Grab and Go STEAM Kit collection. Not only are the kits fun, but they also encourage the critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are so important for our rapidly changing world.”

SPL will be hosting a STEAM Kit Celebration on Saturday, March 22 at 11:00am to unveil this wonderful collection.  To help us kick off the event, Professor Steve will be presenting his science show “Unseen Forces”.   A fun show filled with action, comedy and great visuals.

The Grab & Go kits will be available for checkout with SPL library cards.  Reciprocal borrowers may also take advantage of these educational kits by selecting pick up and return at the Sheridan Public Library.  The goal is to allow kids the opportunity to be introduced to valuable and educational tools for creative learning. SPL is thrilled to be able to provide the access to this resource for our community.
