Arts Council Announces Winners
Fishers Arts Council is proud to announce the winners of the 16th Annual Fishers Arts Council Senior Showcase sponsored by STAR Bank. Senior Showcase is an annual exhibit where seniors of both city high schools, Fishers and Hamilton Southeastern, exhibit their artwork and poetry while competing for scholarships. “The 16th Annual Senior Showcase once again highlighted the impressive artistic talents coming out of the Fishers and HSE School programs,” said Les Reinhardt, Executive Director of Fishers Arts Council. “This year over $4,800 in scholarships were given to 22 seniors, ranging from $50-$700 per award, thanks to the generosity of local businesses and art patrons across the city. Fishers Arts Council is proud of this event and is thankful for the partnership with the Fishers Art Center in allowing an expansion of the gallery space to better serve our graduating artists.”
The awards were presented Friday evening, April 18th at Art Gallery at City Hall in the Fishers Municipal Center Theater during a special Third Friday reception. Chris Hayes, Fishers Arts Council’s President, along with Fishers City Councilor At-Large, Cecilia Coble, and STAR Bank Senior Treasury Management Sales Officer, Karissa Shaffer presented the awards. Catherine Snider also presented a special award, “Best Representation of the Written Word,” in memory of her daughter, Jordan D. Snider.
The award for Best in Show went to Oliver Miles (Hamilton Southeastern High School) for his painting entitled, “Sil3nce.” The evening’s other big winner was Alexander Kairi Walton, (Fishers High School) for their poem titled, “As Strong as the Beginning,” receiving the Jordan D. Snider award for Best Representation of the Written Word. Walton gave a reading of their poem during the ceremony. 95 Students participated in the exhibit offering 125 pieces of 2-D art, 30 pieces or collections of 3-D art, along with seven poetry-based submissions.
The artwork will remain on exhibit through April 28th at the Art Gallery at City Hall inside the Fishers Municipal Center and the Fishers Art Center, 1 Municipal Drive, Fishers from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
