Fishers Spotlights Local Artists With Commissioned Art

As the Fishers Event Center continues to fill the calendar with big shows and sporting events, patrons are treated to a local flair as part of their venue experience. The new ultra-modern, 7,500-seat entertainment venue, which has recently hosted big names and events including Turnpike Troubadours, Alabama, Cirque du Soleil, comedian Jeff Foxworthy, the inaugural Pro Volleyball Federation All-Star Match and much more, has commissioned a group of local artists to create unique pieces of art showcased throughout the venue. Featured artists include the below, with additional details and images of their work for the venue. AARON SCAMIHORN Aaron is an award-winning creative professional with a proven track record of captivating audiences and driving results. With two Emmys®, Four Gold Addys, and numerous illustration and design annual features, his expertise spans gig poster art, product design, and over 20 years in marketing. His diverse skillset focuses on illustration, typography, and design, and he maintains a strong network within the Indianapolis creative community and beyond, enabling him to bring big ideas to life.
See his work at Fishers Event Center: Scamihorn’s work is featured on two “Photo Op” walls on the first and second level concourse. These murals feature items representative of Fishers Event Center events and incorporate FECs branding. Scamihorn also designed the custom posters for Fishers Event Center events including Turnpike Troubadours, Lindsey Stirling, Alabama, the Indy Fuel home opener, the Mudsock rivalry basketball game, the Indy Ignite home opener, and Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats. He also designed a custom stamp featured on marigold seed packets which were distributed at the Rateliff concert in exchange for donations to the Marigold Project. and more. LUCIE RICE A transplant to Carmel in 2020, Rice originally hails from Kentucky, and received her MFA in illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design. She then spent well over a decade refining her skills as a freelance illustrator and designer in Nashville, Tennessee. Drawing creative inspiration from those Southern roots, combined with a passion for all things mid-century, Rice has created a unique style that is full of layered patterns, textures, bright color and detail. A few of her notable book, editorial, and corporate clients include Google, Purina, the Grand Ole Opry, the National Basketball Association, The New Yorker, ESPN, and Toyota. Partnering with Gaylord Entertainment, Rice has also designed the interior and exterior murals for all the Ole Red locations. In the last few years, she has also created public murals for clients in Indiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, California and Florida.
See her work at Fishers Event Center: Rice’s work is featured in murals for District Eats, the second level concourse visible from the bowl, and the second level staircase. Her designs were inspired by the uniqueness of Fishers Event Center as a venue in Hamilton County, reflecting the spirit of the community as a whole. Phrases like ‘This must be the place’ and ‘You’re exactly where you’re supposed to be’ embody this sense of belonging. CHROMATIC COLLECTIVE   Chromatic Collective is a collaborative art duo featuring fine artists Rafael Caro and Erica Parker. Known for their vibrant use of color and captivating, graffiti-inspired illustrative style, they create stunning collaborations with energy and flair. Their journey has been shaped by studying fine arts at Herron School of Art + Design, followed by opening a public gallery, studio, and mural art supply shop in Indianapolis. After closing their brick-and-mortar location, the duo have focused on connecting with new communities and artists, as well as pursuing their aspirations in regional mural events.
See their work at Fishers Event Center: Chromatic Collective’s work is featured in murals at the back-of-house tour entryway, the back-of-house green room hallway, and the back-of-house zamboni garage. These murals were designed to evoke a sense of home for the touring acts visiting Fishers Event Center. Inspired by the fans and crafted to energize the performers, they aim to create an exciting and welcoming atmosphere in the most exclusive areas of the venue. MIKE ALTMAN Mike Altman is a local artist renowned for his ability to transform recycled materials into striking and thought-provoking art. His work often reflects a deep commitment to sustainability, breathing new life into objects that would otherwise go to waste. Altman partnered with Fishers Event Center to create a series of art pieces. Each character was inspired by the various touring acts that regularly grace the stage at the venue, from musicians to comedians, capturing their essence in a fun, playful way.
See his work at Fishers Event Center: Altman’s work is featured in the back-of-house green room hallway, and what made this project even more special was the choice of materials: Altman used the cardboard boxes that originally housed the arena’s seats before they were installed. These boxes, which might otherwise have been discarded, became the canvas for his imaginative creations. The result was a collection of colorful, quirky figures that not only honored the artists who perform at the venue but also celebrated the history of the space itself. KRISTI ARMSTRONG Kristi Armstrong is the Ticket Office Manager at Fishers Event Center.
See her work at Fishers Event Center: Having experienced sensory rooms at other venues, she was inspired to create a truly unique and meaningful piece of art for the Fishers Event Center Sensory Room Presented by DAMAR®. One key feature often found in similar spaces is custom wood wall art, specifically designed to reflect the venue’s character. When tasked with creating this piece, Kristi thoughtfully considered what the artwork should showcase. Traditionally, sensory room wall art features the venue’s logo or a team mascot. However, given that Fishers is home to three in-house teams, Kristi instead chose to focus on creating something universally meaningful and decided to feature Indiana’s state flower, the peony. This choice not only adds a calming touch to the room but also ties in a sense of local pride, all while incorporating soothing colors ideal for guests utilizing the space. FISHERS FLOWER FARM Fishers Flower Farm is nestled in the heart of Fishers, Indiana, and was founded by the mother-daughter duo, Kayti and Mackenzie, who built it from the ground up with family values at its core. They envisioned creating a space where families and friends could come together for meaningful, nature-inspired experiences right here in Fishers. In a world where instant gratification often takes precedence, the simple act of being present—with each other, with nature, and in the moment—can feel lost. Fishers Flower Farm offers a peaceful sanctuary where you can slow down, find joy and intention, and connect deeply with your loved ones while crafting something beautiful in nature. Their specialty cut flower varieties are thoughtfully curated and grown locally using sustainable and ethical practices.
On March 18, they partnered with the Fishers Event Center for a special activation during Nathaniel Rateliff and The Night Sweats. To enhance the experience, they crafted two stunning flower towers, wrapped around “NRNS” letters, filling FEC concourse with vibrant, locally grown blooms for fans to take pictures in front of. This beautiful display not only added to the concert atmosphere but also served to encourage donations to the Marigold Project.
