Smile
What makes Kaitlyn Schiesser smile? “Making other people smile,” said the 15-year-old Noblesville resident, a Hamilton County 4-H’er who was found Monday competing in the 4-H Dog Obedience and Showmanship Contest at the 4-H Fairgrounds in Noblesville where her 4-year-old winning Goldendoodle Hunter (pictured) joined her for a photo. “I got Champion in Obedience, Agility and Jumpers this year and Reserve Grand for Agility and Jumpers … I had a perfect score in Jumpers.” What else? “I’ve done the Dog project for three years. We competed in State Fair all three years,” she said. “My first year, I got third place in Agility at State Fair and 11th place in Obedience at State Fair. So that was pretty cool. And I’ve got Champion in Agility all three years (at county).” She’ll be a sophomore this fall at Guerin Catholic High School in Noblesville. The Hamilton County 4-H Fair opens on Thursday and continues through Tuesday at the Fairgrounds. Favorite thing about the 4-H Fair? “The community.” Favorite Fair food? “The tenderloins.” Here’s a snippet of what 4-H Fair goers will find on Thursday: Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, Joint Producers’ Barbecue, Extension Homemakers Special Taco Platter, Bicentennial Groundbreaking at 9 a.m., 4-H Bucket Calf Show, 9 a.m.; Llama Senior Showmanship, 9:30 a.m.; Crops Judging, Horse & Pony English Show, Poultry Show and Robotics Activities at 10 a.m.; Dairy Show, 10:30 a.m.; Tractor Driving Contest and Pygmy Goat Show at 1 p.m.; Llama Pack Obstacle, 1:30 p.m.; Kids Craft Activities, 2 p.m.; Blood Drive, 3:30-5:30 p.m.; Extension Homemakers Flower Show, 4:30 p.m.; Purdue Extension Celebrates and Rabbit Ambassador Contest at 6 p.m.; Do-Si-Squares Exhibition at 6:30 p.m. and 4-H Clogging Exhibition at 7 p.m. Read more about the 4-H Fair this week in the Betsy Reason column in The Times.
