Marie Gauker, 89, Lapel, passed away peacefully in her sleep Thursday, Dec. 23, 2021, at Sugar Fork Crossing in Anderson following an extended battle with Dementia.

She was born Sept. 5, 1932, in Island Creek, Ky. to Thomas Pugh and Bessie (Owens) Pugh.

Mrs. Gauker attended school in Kentucky. She was a homemaker most of her life, but held various positions throughout her younger years. Mrs. Gauker was very active in the church community, especially at Daybreak Community Church in Lapel.

Survivors include her four children, Debbie (Richard) Cole of Lapel, Michael (Marina) McQueary of Fishers, Donna Howard of Indianapolis and Nancy (David) Montgomery of Anderson; brothers, William Thomas Pugh of New Castle, Robert Pugh of Greenfield and Cecil Pugh of Plainfield; sister, Della McCombs of Kokomo; grandchildren, Andy, Tony and Paul Cole, Michael Jr. and Michelle McQueary, Bryan and Heather Howard and Holly Longenbaugh, Brandon and Sara Montgomery; several great-grandchildren; a few great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph Gauker; her brothers, Delbert Owens, Zack Pugh and Patrick Pugh; and a sister, Faye Smith.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021, at Hersberger-Bozell Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel, Ind., with Rev’s Richard and Andrew Cole officiating. A private Graveside will follow in Glenn Cove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home on Thursday.
