Matthew Jacob Pearcy

Matthew Jacob Pearcy, 22, of Indianapolis, passed away on Monday, Jan. 3, 2022.

He was born on June 21, 1999 to Stephen and Lisa (Shepherd) Pearcy in Indianapolis, Ind.

Mr. Pearcy grew up in Northeast Indianapolis and loved his family, the outdoors, and animals. A loyal friend, he strived to make sure everyone was included. He loved the power of words and was an avid reader and creative writer. Mr. Pearcy was a faithful man devoted to his Bible study and serving others through mission and service projects. He was clever, witty and loved to play games like Dungeons and Dragons, dominos, and video games. Mr. Pearcy attended Indiana University, and in addition to his studies he enjoyed a wide variety of activities including being President of the Log Rolling Club. In May of 2021, he received a Bachelor of Science in Biology with minors in Comparative Literature and Chemistry. Mr. Pearcy was dedicated to his dream of becoming a physician and had been accepted to medical school to begin in the fall and was working as an EMT in the interim.

Survivors include his parents, Stephen and Lisa Pearcy; siblings, Jordan and Daniel Pearcy; his grandparents, June Pearcy, and Jim and Jean Shepherd; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bob Pearcy and Margie Shepherd; and future brother-in-law, Dallas Stubblefield.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 7, 2022 at Geist Christian Church – Mud Creek, 8550 Mud Creek Road, in Indianapolis. An additional visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., with services at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022 at the church, with Pastors Ryan Hazen and Kyle Brown officiating. Burial will follow services and be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis.

In recognition of Mr. Pearcy’s passions, memorial contributions may be made to Geist Christian Church Youth and Mission Fund, 8550 Mud Creek Road, Indianapolis, IN 46256; or to the donor’s choice of a local library, reading program, or animal shelter/rescue.
