Drive your golf cart to Lights Over Morse 4th

Golf carts are popular during the annual Lights over Morse Lake Fourth of July weekend celebration. A golf-cart contest takes place annually on July 4 before the 11 a.m. parade, with a golf-cart poker run and golf-cart scavenger hunt both set for Saturday during the festival.

Do you own a golf cart and want to ride it all over town for the July 4 weekend?

Then bring your golf cart to the Town of Cicero for the 2022 Lights Over Morse Lake Festival.

Golf carts are permitted for use in the northern Hamilton County town on Morse Lake.

As long as you abide by the rules, you can drive a golf cart in the lakeside community. Just carry proof of insurance, display a slow-moving vehicle sign on the back, have functional headlamps and tail lamps, not operate after 10 p.m., and hold a valid driver’s license.

Golf carts are permitted within the municipal boundaries of the Town of Cicero, with the exception of Indiana 19.

During the July 4 holiday weekend, there is always a golf-cart contest, with folks this year invited to decorate their golf carts in a patriotic theme for the 10 a.m. July 4 contest at Hamilton North Library Pavilion, and then ride the golf carts in the 11 a.m. Fourth of July parade through town.

But if you miss that, there is also a golf cart poker run and a golf-cart scavenger hunt.

The golf cart poker run is at 2 p.m. Sunday, starting and finishing at Cicero Christian  Church Shelter, with stops around town, with prize awards at 3 p.m. Registration begins at 1 p.m. Cost is $20 per hand, with $500 in cash prizes, including $200 to the best hand.

So you might ask, what’s a golf cart poker run?

It’s a game of chance, and the golf cart riders with the best hand wins.

If you’ve been on a motorcycle or boat poker run, then you know how it’s played. The participants, or card players, visit five to seven checkpoints, drawing a playing card at each. The object of the game: to have the best five-card poker hand at the end of the poker run.

Registration starts at 3 p.m., register, by calling Sheila Raines at 317-385-1364. Registration is $20 per cart. First prize, $100; second prize, $80; third prize, $60.
