Sen. Buck Shares Update
Unchecked illegal immigration into the United States during the Biden administration has put a strain on resources throughout the country, not just border states.
For example, last year alone more than 21,000 pounds of fentanyl were seized by Customs and Border Protection.
Also in 2024, over 92,000 unaccompanied children were encountered by CBP, and the lack of border security has also led to increased human trafficking.
Though most public policy decisions around immigration are made at the national level, this year, I supported legislation that will:
- Require county sheriffs to inform Immigration and Customs Enforcement if there is probable cause to believe a person who has been arrested for a crime is in the U.S. illegally;
- Prevent public health dollars from being used for services for illegal immigrants; and
- Make it a crime to register a vehicle or get a driver’s license on behalf of someone who can’t legally drive.
State Sen. Jim Buck represent District 21, which includes Tipton County and portions of Hamilton and Howard counties.
