County Clerk Receives Statewide Award
The Association of Indiana Counties (AIC) announced that Hamilton County Clerk Kathy Williams received the 2025 Outstanding County Clerk of the Circuit Court Award. The award recognized her contributions made to county government throughout his years of public service.
Throughout her 49 years of service, Kathy Williams has received many well-deserved accolades for her service to Hamilton County, which began in 1976 at the age of 19. Kathy served as deputy clerk, chief deputy, and was elected Clerk in 1984. During this time, she initiated the efforts to build a relationship with legislators providing Clerks a seat at the legislative table.
In 1992 she was elected to the Indiana House of Representatives District 29 and became a trailblazer for women in politics, becoming the first woman to serve as Caucus Chairman, in addition to serving as Assistant Republican Leader and Assistant Caucus Chair. Her dedication and hard work throughout the years have been instrumental in shaping policies throughout the state concerning elections, judicial matters and local government issues.
Kathy is now completing her 4th term as Clerk, and over the years has served as elections administrator and chaired committees such as the Governor’s Task Force on Election Integrity and the Census Data Commission, earning the Outstanding Election Administrator Award and the Sagamore of the Wabash. In addition to her service as the Hamilton County Clerk, she serves on the Legislative Committees for both the Clerks Association and the Association of Indiana Counties where she provides sage advice to not only the affiliates but her former Legislative colleagues at the Statehouse. This advocacy has resulted in sound and bipartisan legislation for all of Indiana’s County Clerks.
The award was presented during AIC’s 67th Annual Conference in Orange County. The AIC’s Annual Conference is the largest gathering of county officials in the state. Representatives from public agencies, private entities, and local elected officials addressed issues such as: Social Security, HR, AI, Cost- Saving Strategies, Managing Growth, Cybersecurity, Economic Development, State and Federal Funding Projects and Senate Enrolled Act 1 and the changes to Local Government Finance
