HAND Launches Year-End Campaign to Help
Hamilton County Area Neighborhood Development recently announced the launch of One Door Away, a year-end campaign raising awareness about the growing need for stable, attainable housing options in Hamilton, Boone and Tipton counties.
Across Central Indiana, rising housing costs continue to outpace wages, creating challenges for workers, seniors and families striving to remain in the communities they love. One Door Away uses the image of a single door as a symbolic reminder that many neighbors are just one step away from stability, safety, and home.
“Behind every door is a story,” said Andrea Davis, Executive Director of HAND. “A retired teacher who wants to stay close to the community she served. A healthcare worker raising a child. A senior hoping to age safely in place. When neighbors support HAND’s mission, they open the next door for someone working hard to build stability.”
Board Leadership Voices Support
“Every strong community begins with stability,” said Jordyn Gladis, HAND Board President. “One Door Away is an invitation for residents, partners, and leaders to recognize how essential housing is to community vitality. When we open doors for our neighbors, the entire region benefits.”
Why This Campaign Matters Now
HAND currently owns and manages 157 rental homes across 11 communities, with additional developments under way. These homes serve seniors on fixed incomes, working individuals who make our communities so wonderful and families who need reliable, stable housing to remain close to jobs, schools and support systems.
The need continues to grow. With limited rental options across the northern suburbs, many residents face difficult choices about where they can afford to live. HAND’s work aims to ease this pressure by building, preserving and advocating for a wider range of housing options.
“In times when so many are facing instability or rising housing costs, even one open door can change the course of a life,” Davis said. “We hope this campaign helps our community see the human stories behind the need – and the collective impact we can make.”
