State Senator Running for U.S. House
Indiana State Senator J.D. Ford announced his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives in Indiana’s 5th Congressional District today, launching a campaign prioritizing affordability, healthcare, and giving Hoosiers a voice in their government. The fifth district represents Hamilton, Madison, Delaware, Grant, and Tipton counties, as well as the large majority of Howard County.
Ford’s decision comes on the heels of a bipartisan rejection of President Donald Trump’s effort to rig voting districts and strip Hoosiers of their voice in government. Along with his colleagues in the General Assembly, the two-term state senator stood up to Washington’s pressure, reaffirming his commitment to Hoosier values and accountable government.
“Washington politics has been playing an outsized role in our state’s government and too many decisions are made based on power instead of people,” Ford said. “I’m running for Congress because my service to Hoosiers doesn’t stop at the Statehouse. I want to bring Indiana’s hard work and community values to our nation’s capital. Hoosiers deserve a compassionate leader who shows up, listens, and takes action.”
Ford has a proven record of advocating for working families, fighting rising healthcare costs, and supporting public education throughout his eight years in the Indiana General Assembly. The 43-year-old flipped a long-held red district, won reelection, and rose to Democratic leadership by listening to Hoosiers and finding solutions.
Christina Hale, former Indiana State Representative and 2020 Democratic candidate for the same Congressional district, believes Ford is the right person for the office.
“J.D. Ford is an incredibly effective change-maker. He’s one of the most resilient people I know,” said Hale. “Everyone agrees Washington is broken. But real hope comes from ethical, smart, and driven people like J.D. grabbing the wheel to steer us back to an America where all kids have an opportunity for success and a future they can actually afford.”
Ford will prioritize:
- Affordability: Fighting high prices of groceries, housing, and everyday services.
- Healthcare: Protecting access and lowering premiums and drug costs.
- Hoosier voices: Bringing constituent concerns directly to Washington.
The sitting state senator will serve out his term in the General Assembly and plans to travel throughout the district in the coming weeks to meet voters, hear their concerns, and outline a vision for Indiana’s future at the national level.
