Speaker Huston Assigns Study Committee Topics

The Indiana General Assembly’s Legislative Council met last week to assign topics for lawmakers to study during the 2026 legislative interim, said Indiana House Speaker Todd Huston (R-Fishers).

Interim study committees are an opportunity for legislators to research and discuss issues impacting Hoosiers ahead of the next legislative session. Topics this year include child safety, funding sources for childcare, a review of workforce programs, property tax assessments and more.

“During study committees, we can vet legislative ideas, hear from Hoosiers impacted by policies and prepare for the next session,” Huston said. “We’re continuing to focus on making government more efficient, lowering costs for Hoosiers and supporting working families.”

House and Senate leaders will assign members to each study committee in the coming weeks. Interim committees, which will be chaired by the House this year, will meet during the summer and fall months in preparation for the 2027 session of the General Assembly.

Huston represents House District 37, which includes a portion of Hamilton County.
