Sen. Buck Shares Update

Protecting the PublicOne of the most important roles of government is to protect the public and provide law and order. That’s why I supported Senate Joint Resolution 1 this year, which aims to amend the state’s constitution to allow courts to deny bail to a criminal suspect who poses a substantial threat to the public. This would allow judges to hold arrestees without bail if there is no way to release them without threatening public safety. Under Indiana’s constitutional amendment process, Hoosiers will have a chance to vote on this concept during the General Election in November. I also supported Senate Enrolled Act 2 this year, a companion bill that ensures those arrested are treated fairly when their bail is set and guarantees legal protections like the right to an attorney at the bail hearing, the right to present evidence and the right to have bail set in a timely manner.

Staying Safe on Indiana Waterways Whether you’re fishing, waterskiing or kayaking, our state offers a number of options for Hoosiers to enjoy some time on the water. The Indiana Boating Safety Handbook discusses our state’s boating laws and provides information about how to safely operate a boat. As always, Hoosiers are reminded to always wear a lifejacket while out on the water.  State Sen. Jim Buck represent District 21, which includes Tipton County and portions of Hamilton and Howard counties.
