Robert L. Wyne

Robert L. Wyne, 83, passed away at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital on Dec. 17, 2021, after a short illness.
He was born April 13, 1938, in Muncie. He was raised by his aunt and uncle, John and Edith Guthrie.
He graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1956. He attended Ball State University where he studied and played football before serving in the United States Army and the National Guard. He was also a graduate of the Ohio State University Residential Mortgage School and the graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin.
Mr. Wyne married Sue Guthier on Oct. 14 1961 in Huntington, Ind. The loving couple celebrated their 60th anniversary earlier this year. Mrs. Wyne survives.
He spent his entire career working in the banking industry and retired in 2000 from Citizens First State Bank in Hartford City where he was the President and Chief Operating Officer.
His memberships included St. Lawrence Catholic Church. He was very dedicated to community service and served in a variety of roles over the years. He was a member of the Rotary Club where he was the recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow, Lions Club International, B.P.O.E. #1776 of Dunkirk, the Dunkirk Chamber of Commerce, VP of the Jay County Economic Development Foundation, President of the Jay County Hospital Building Foundation and Treasurer of the Jay County Fair Association. He was a member of the Dunkirk City Planning Commission and Secretary of the Dunkirk Board of Zoning Appeals. Bob was also the past President of the Blackford Economic Development, and served on the Board of Directors of Indiana Bankers Association, the Hartford City Library Board, and the Hartford City Rotary Club. One of his proudest accomplishments has helping to start the Blackford County Community Foundation.
He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed attending the sporting events of his grandchildren. He was a huge supporter of Ball State Cardinals and attended football and basketball games for many years. He was Past President of the Cardinal Varsity Club.
Mr. Wyne was named the Elks Citizen of the Year in 1987. He was also awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash by then Governor Robert Orr in 1987
Family was so very important to him. The memories that were made at their lake retreat in northern Indiana will be cherished for years to come by his children and grandchildren.
Surviving other than his wife include two daughters, Brenda (Jeff) Armie of Noblesville and Judy (Mark) Reynolds of Muncie; grandchildren Sean (Miranda) Armie, Samantha (Eric) Applegate, Blake Reynolds and Braden Reynolds; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Sara Jane (Myron) Moyer.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Sandy Beard and aunt and uncle Edith and John Guthrie.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Dec. 23, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Muncie. Father Christian DeCarlo officiated. Interment was at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of Muncie.
Waters Funeral Home in Hartford City handled the arrangements.
